College Student Discounts That Actually Matter

Every year it seems like every company known to man has its own “student discounts” when the back-to-school season rolls around and college students are moving into their dorms. In fact, we can come in contact with more discounts than we know what to do with.

How do you know who to shop with and that you are actually spending your money wisely?

Don’t worry, we have done all the hard work for you.

Here are the 9 Student Discounts that actually matter and that will be worth putting time and money into.

Apple

Every year apple offers new back-to-school discounts. This year, for the first time they’re offering an Apple Store gift card (instead of an App Store gift card) with select purchases. Students can also receive education pricing plus a $100 Apple Store gift card with the purchase of a Mac, or a $50 gift card with the purchase of an iPad or iPhone.

Apple’s education pricing gives college students a great opportunity to get some of their best tech products for hundreds cheaper. To give you a taste, right now (August 12th, 2019) at the date of the writing of this post, you can get up to $200 off Apple’s Mac (with a pair of Beats headphones for free with qualifying purchases) in its education store. Not a bad deal.

You can also get a 20% discount off Apple care+.

They also have something for the music lovers out there. When you verify your status as a student with Apple in their music store, you will get 6 months of Apple music for free. Your discount won’t just disappear when your trial is over. After the 6 month period, you will only have to pay $4.99/mo.

Who Can Apply For These Discounts?

Obviously to get these discounts you will have to prove to them that you are a student. But fret not Apple makes it simple to gain eligibility for its student discounts.

According to Apple themselves, anyone that works or operates in an educational institution qualifies for their student discounts.

As long as you are a student enrolled in any university, you are eligible to take advantage of their discounts. Even teachers and professors will be able to use this discount.

If you are a parent, bad news, you can’t get an apple product for yourself with this discount. But if you are going to be using the discount to buy a Mac for your student heading off to school, you will be able to use the discount to buy your student what they need.

How To Get Your Apples Discount

For students in the US, it will be pretty easy for you to get your apple discount. Apple won’t require you to provide an ID or any sort of verification for you to make an order from the education store. But they can ask you at any point during or after your purchase to provide proof and will charge you if you fail to show them proof.

If you happen to be a student in the UK you will need to access the education store through UNiDAYS. You will need to enter your email address and a password (if you don’t have a UNiDAYS account sign-up<link> is easy), your name, your school, your field of study, what year you are in, and how long you have to graduate. You will be required to confirm your identity, which shouldn’t be complicated at all.

Best Places College Students Can Get Cheap Textbooks

Microsoft

Microsoft is another company that does discounts every year for college students. This year Microsoft is pushing its Surface products. Even if their discount system isn’t as in-depth as Apple’s education store, they still offer some great back-to-school discounts college students can take advantage of.

This year Microsoft is offering 10% off the Pro, Pro 2, and Pro 3 models. They’re also offering 10% off or more all Windows PCs and all accessories, plus special pricing on software.

Who Can Apply For These Discounts?

Microsofts discounts are available to K-12 and higher education students, school faculty and parents of students.

Like apple as long as you can prove that you are a student or that you work in an educational institution, you will be eligible for these discounts.

If you would like to take advantage of Microsoft’s back-to-school discounts, check here at their education store.

Some AMC theater locations have these discounts available only on Thursdays, so plan accordingly. If you would like to see if this discount applies on any other day, make sure to check by calling into your nearest AMC location and ask them.

Amazons student discount is one of the best student discount programs out there, in our opinion.

And for good reason.

With this membership, you get access to all the benefits of Amazon Prime including free 2-day shipping and streaming movies and TV shows through Prime Video. After the 6 months is up, you can continue your prime membership for 50% off the standard price they charge everyone else till you graduate or for the next four years (whichever comes first).

We recommend you activate your student membership with amazon at the start of the school year. That way your free Prime account will last you a full year in college.

Also, right now amazon is offering its Echo products 40% off, free 3 months of Kindle Unlimited, and Amazon music at a discounted price of just $0.99/month as Prime Student exclusive offers.
